16 motorists snared by unmarked police patrols in mobile phone crackdown

A police crackdown on Highland motorists using mobile phones while driving snared 16 drivers in its first week.
The ongoing clampdown involved unmarked police patrol vehicles and is part of a wider National Mobile Phone Campaign.
"In the first week of the campaign, officers have charged 16 drivers with mobile phone offences which carry a minimum six points and £200 fine," said a police spokesperson.
"But using a mobile phone while driving can have far more devastating consequences for you and others. Distraction was a factor in 15 per cent of fatal collisions in 2021.
