Wick Paths Group members were joined by eight volunteers from Rolls Royce in an event organised by Wick man Allan Bruce.

“Rolls Royce were delighted to be able to help the Wick Paths Group carry out path maintenance at Wick Riverside last Friday,” said Allan.

“Myself and other colleagues were tasked with shovelling and raking the stones once they had been brought to the site by dumper truck. Everyone that came along enjoyed their afternoon’s work.”

Speaking the day after the event, John Bogle from the paths group said: “Wow, what a difference to the path between the railway and the caravan park over the last couple of days.

“Yesterday, Willie Watt scraped the path and today eight volunteers from Rolls Royce were joined by five members of WPG to lay and roll stone.

“The path was previously getting narrower because of encroaching vegetation and was wet and muddy in places. It is now wider with a firm dry walking surface.

He sent out “a very big thank you” to Allan Bruce for organising the event, along with all the volunteers who came to help out.

“As always, we are indebted to the generous local businesses who supplied equipment and stone – GMR Henderson, Hugh Simpsons, Arenley Plant Hire, Graham Begg and Wick Caravan Park [for] parking and plant and equipment storage.

“Willie reports lots of positive comments from walkers who use this path. A litter pick was also carried out alongside the path and in the caravan park.”

The final litter pick, as part of the Keep Scotland Beautiful Spring Clean event, also took place on Sunday.
