Pupils at Noss Primary in Wick performed at the school’s annual talent competition, Noss’ Got Talent, on Wednesday (March 27).

In the lead-up to the show, pupils auditioned to make the final event with 14 finalists eventually getting through. Finalists performed in front of 300 spectators and a judging panel made up of Margaret Thomson (Wick Players), Jan Sutherland (Jan Sutherland Floristry), Calvin Wilson (Lyth Arts Centre) and Sean MacGregor (actor, The Crown).

Ayla Sinclair (P5) won the competition after performing her very own comedy act. Amber Gibson (P1) was placed second after showcasing a street dance and Thomas Nicholson (dancing) was once again in the trophy placings finishing in third place.

Pupils from across the school auditioned for the event and on the morning pupils, families and staff observed the performances.

There was a gymnastic routine from P6 pupils Laney Harper, Kenzie Little, Carey Richard, Imogen Leith and P1 pupil Eve Harper. Kaiden Edwards (P7) sang ‘Let Her Go’ while Tommy Grant (P5) and Freddie Ross (P7) sang ‘Heather on the Hill’.

P4 pupils Grace Miller, Thomas Nicholson, Ohana Jiz De Ortega-McPhee and Hannah Mackay (P3) all performed dance routines. Robbie Tait (P3) performed on the piano. Cameron Anderson (P5) presented a magic show. P4 pupils Joe Davidson and Cody Wilson sang ‘Stick Season’ while P6 pupils Sinead Robertson, Heidi Edwards and Harley Gammie performed a majorette routine.

The event was organised by Avril Farquhar while facilities manager, Michael Adamson and Robert Beattie provided logistical support in the lead-up to the event.

Mrs Farquhar commented: “I love being involved in organising Noss’ Got Talent.

“We have a wide range of talents across the school and it’s great for the pupils to have the opportunity to showcase their skills to their peers and the staff in the school. Each year, we are blown away by the confidence of the pupils for going up on the stage in front of such a big crowd.

“The P7s should also be proud of themselves for taking charge of presenting and the organisation of the music side of things. It’s such a feel-good way to end the term and I can’t wait for its return next year.”

Karen Center, Tesco community champion and Darren Campbell, Highland Gift Shop, provided Easter eggs for the finalists and mugs for the judges of the competition. Jan Sutherland also provided bouquets for each of the finalists.

Speaking just after Wednesday’s event, the school’s headteacher, Fraser Thomson said: “The event was a huge success last year and we’ve built on that this year.

“The excitement has been building over the last few weeks in the lead-up to today. All of the pupils were brilliant and a credit to the Noss community.

“We are extremely grateful to everybody who has supported the event. All of our pupils have talents and skills which we see, hear and celebrate each week but this is an opportunity to perform in front of a large audience on the big stage. Congratulations to Ayla on winning the competition.”
