Wick births at all time low with 18 babies delivered in 11 months

FEWER than 10 per cent of pregnant women from Caithness are giving birth at Caithness General Hospital, it has emerged.

The latest figures reveal that only 18 women from the county have given birth at the top-floor maternity unit in Wick between the start of December 2016 and the end of last month.

This compares to 199 women who travelled more than 100 miles to give birth at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.
