Reay Golf Club: Munro’s sublime round in Dunnett Cup

Sunday saw some fantastic scoring in sunny conditions as Reay Golf Club hosted round one of the Dunnett Cup.

Topping the standings was the in-form Brent Munro, who fired a sublime round of 65 for nett 64. Lee Parnell took second place after an impressive round of 72 gave him a nett 67.

Gregor Munro finished third after a fine round of 68 which gave the scratch player a matching nett score of 68. A trio of players, Andrew Taylor, Ian Farquhar and Lee Malcolm, were next best after they all finished on nett 69.

The second and final round of the cup will be on May 19.

The seniors were in North Point Distillery Stableford action, and on a tough day for scoring Murdo Macdonald finished on top on countback after three players finished on 30 points.

A birdie at the fifth helped Macdonald to the win, with Sandy Chisholm taking second and Willie Steven third.

Malcolm Thomson finished two points behind to take fourth place on 28 points, ahead of Ian Ross and Kenny Farmer Snr who both finished on 27.

On Saturday the 18-hole sweep competition was won by Willie Williamson on 39 points ahead of Murdo Macdonald on 36 and Gregor Munro and Gavin Gunn on 34.

This Saturday sees the club host one of its flagship events, the Ronnie Wallace Open, sponsored by Norbloc Construction (further details can be found on the club website).

On Sunday the gents will be competing for the Pilkington Cup, and next week also sees the return of midweek competition in the shape of the ARC Summer Cup on Tuesday and the ladies’ May Medal on Thursday.
