WALKING around the entire UK coastline to raise money for the RNLI saw one man arrive at Thurso Lifeboat station as he continues his challenge of a lifetime.

Alex Ellis-Roswell arrived at the Thurso Lifeboat Station last week having spent 14 days walking 150 miles from Lochinver in aid of the RNLI.

He started his charity walk in August 2014 from Margate in Kent and has already walked over 7000 miles and raised nearly £50,000 for lifeboat stations around the UK and Ireland.

When he reached Sutherland he suffered an injury to his hip which put the rest of his challenge in doubt.

But thanks to a Facebook appeal asking for members of the public to help carry his 15kg bag, he got over 200 messages that offered to help him during his trek across north Sutherland and Caithness.

During his 150 mile walk between Lochinver and Thurso Alex raised £926.76.

On his arrival in Scrabster he donated the money to Thurso Lifeboat Station.

As well as people helping him with his bag he received food and accommodation at The Weigh Inn during his stay in Scrabster and Thurso.

He was inspired to take up the challenge as members of his family have been involved in RAF search and rescue and he has always had great admiration for the work RNLI does to protect lives at sea.

He took the MV Hamnavoe from Scrabster to Stromness on Thursday where he began his Northern Isles leg of the charity walk.

Next month he will return to Scrabster and carry on east along the north coast before heading south towards Wick.
