Banging the drum in Thurso with a pipe band makeover
Thurso Pipe Band (TPB) has now been officially renamed and beats its drums with a new logo as well.
Before coronavirus restrictions came into play, the band had been holding regular meetings amongst members and a thought was raised of adding to the band name to reflect its "outlook" after 107 years of existence.
The pipe band has been regarded by many as a huge pillar in the community, parading at various functions throughout the county and welcoming in members from all over Caithness.
A TPB spokesperson said: "We felt the the band was more than a town band as it was when the band was formed in 1913. But now in 2020 it is a community band – which it has been for a large number of years. We don’t want this to be known as a ‘change’ but as an ‘adding to' the affluent history that the band already has."
To reflect this change the TPB will now be officially known as Thurso and District Pipe Band.
There is also a new bass head design which incorporates the band's name as well as the Thurso coat of arms and the Caithness flag.
Pipe Major Robbie Campbell said: "As there have been many members of the band that do not live in Thurso, we thought by adding district to our name we would be including those members.

"It also says that we are an open welcoming band to anyone, no matter where they are from."
