Body found near John O’Groats not that of missing local man

The body recently discovered at John O’Groats is not the local man reported missing several weeks ago, confirmed Police Scotland today.

Officers appealed for information on the whereabouts of John McGrath (52) who was last seen in John O’Groats on Saturday, March 2. Mr McGrath remains missing despite extensive appeals.

Around 10am on Thursday, March 28 officers were made aware of the body of a person being found at Warth Hill near John O’Groats. A few days after the discovery a Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing."

Police confirmed today (April 18) that the body is “not the missing person John McGrath” and that enquiries still “remain ongoing” to establish the identity.
