Serious house fire in Wick – one casualty reported
A serious house fire broke out at West Banks Terrace in Wick earlier this afternoon and one person is being treated in hospital for injuries.
Multiple emergency services were witnessed at the scene around lunchtime today including fire, police and ambulance with the road being taped off by police.
A witness said that a “window exploded out” as the fire raged at the house. Concerned residents were unable to access their homes due to the police cordon.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 12.57 pm on Wednesday, 18 December to reports of a fire within a property on West Banks Terrace, Wick.
“Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene and firefighters are working to make the area safe.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call today at 1317 hours to attend an incident on West Banks Terrace. We dispatched one ambulance which arrived within five minutes and treated one patient at the scene.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.20pm on Wednesday, 18 December, 2024, police were called to assist Scottish Fire and Rescue Service colleagues at the scene of a fire on West Banks Terrace, Wick. Emergency services remain at the scene.”
