Busy spell for Thurso High School footballers, netball players and Young Ambassadors

Thurso High School pupils have been enjoying a busy spell of extracurricular activities.

The S2 football team travelled to Kemnay Academy in Aberdeenshire for a first-round tie in the North of Scotland Schools Cup.

The boys came up against well-organised opponents. Ross Moodie managed to get a goal for Thurso but Kemnay proved too strong and went through to the next round.

The S3 football team had an away tie against Charleston Academy of Inverness. Thurso fought back from going a goal down, with Matthew Cook and Riley Gray scoring to secure the victory.

The S3 team also had a home game in the Scottish Schools Cup against Kirkwall Grammar School. The Orkney team ran out 4-0 winners.

Six pupils from S3-S6 trialled for the North of Scotland schools football teams. S6 pupils Owen Bain and Euan Kennedy made it through the trials, which began with 70 pupils from all over the north and the islands, and were selected for the squad to take on Aberdeen schools.

S3 pupil Harris Shone has also been selected for the under-15 reserve list.

Thurso High’s S2 netball team were at home in the first round of the Scottish Schools Cup and hosted Kirkwall Grammar School and Wick High School.

Thurso had a nervy start against a confident Kirkwall side, with the islanders winning 22-6.

Thurso then took on Wick High in an evenly matched contest. Thurso managed to edge in front and won the game 23-17, meaning they will progress to the next round.

The S3 netball team travelled to Fortrose Academy to play in the first round of the Scottish Schools Cup. The girls started strongly against Kingussie, winning 21-16.

The girls then took on Fortrose Academy and built on the confidence they gained from the first match to win 23-8.

Thurso still have Wick High to play in the first round. However, with Wick and Thurso having won against Kingussie and Fortrose, both teams will progress to the next round.

Two Thurso S6 pupils, Olivia Mackay and Lewis Macleod, travelled to Kingussie to participate in the High Life Highland Young Ambassadors day.
