Caithness blood donor group seeks support for arts and craft fundraiser
Arty people from across Caithness are being invited to help support local blood donors and the lab at Caithness General Hospital.
Joy Jackson runs the “Mr and Mrs Blood Drop – Caithness” community on Facebook and holds art and craft exhibitions in May and September each year to raise awareness about the importance of giving blood and to raise funds for the Caithness blood lab.
Last year the exhibitions, which have been taking place since 2013, raised a total of £1100.
However, Joy says that numbers have been dwindling and she is concerned that 2025 may be the last year of running them if more people do not come forward to support the vital cause.
Highland News and Media, publisher of the Caithness Courier and John O’Groat Journal, recently ran a campaign across the Highlands and Moray to encourage more people to give blood, culminating in 5000 donations between the end of November and Easter.
Joy is now inviting talented local arts and crafts makers who would like a table at this weekend’s event to get in touch via the Facebook page or email: mrandmrsblooddrop@gmail.com.
The art and craft exhibition takes place on Saturday and Sunday, May 3-4, from noon to 4pm at Latheron Hall.
Joy added: “I would like to thank everyone over the years who have helped with these events, it’s much appreciated.”
