Caithness minister celebrates 30 years in the role with family and friends

A CAITHNESS minister has just celebrated 30 years in his role. Over a hundred friends and family gathered in the

Castletown and Community Free Church to honour the Rev Howard Stone who moved to the village three decades ago with his wife Christine and family.

Those attending enjoyed stories from over the years, video messages from friends who couldn’t attend, a few words from Mr Stone before enjoying some of the cake that was presented for the occasion.

He arrived in Casteltown in February 1993 after completing his studies at Free Church college in Edinburgh.

As well as providing weekly church services in the village and across the county for 30 years, Mr Stone has been involved in assemblies with the primary school, children’s work at the church through One Way Club and Aftermath and more recently through the church’s community Gateway Cafe – all supported by his wife Christine.

Recalling some of the most memorable moments of his time in the village, Mr Stone recounted the motorbike accident he had while on his way to conduct a service in Wick in 2011, which left him with a broken neck and in a ‘halo vest’ for three months. He thanked the congregation and the wider community for their support and friendship over the years.

Mr Stone said it was " a blessing and delight to serve in and be a part of such a lovely community."
