A MEETING pearl lovers must not miss is to delve deeper into the world of freshwater pearl mussels and how they are being protected.

The rarities, an important part of biodiversity, are a critically endangered species threatened by illegal exploitation.

The talk, called “Riverwatcher for the Pearls in Peril Project”, in collaboration with the Strathnaver Museum, will be hosted by Natalie Young and will be calling for the public’s help to protect pearl mussels by reporting suspicious activities relating to pearl mussels.

The free event will be held on Friday, May 15, at 7pm in The Hut, Farr Edge, Bettyhill.
