Thurso care home residents smash Comic Relief challenge
Staff, residents, and visitors at Pentland View Care Home in Thurso recently took on the task of walking laps around the home and surrounding area to raise money for Comic Relief.
As the most northerly care home on mainland Britain, the goal was to walk 603 laps in representation of the 603 miles between Lands’s End and John O’ Groats, and the participants smashed it!

The plan, a joint effort between general manager Megyn Todd and activities coordinator, Jeanine Sinclair, was for residents to get out and get moving with the assistance of staff, family and friends, and saw staff from all departments joining in on the fun.
Whether able to walk themselves, with assistance, or being pushed in a wheelchair, the residents really enjoyed the experience, which was made even lovelier by the gorgeous views of Orkney, Dunnet Head and the surrounding areas found around the home.
While out walking residents would often chat about their memories of the area and enjoyment of the beautiful scenery.
Residents, their relatives and staff were all very supportive and were there to cheer on the participants as they began the fundraising challenge.
Jeanine Sinclair, activities coordinator at Pentland View Care Home, said: “We’ve had such a good time taking on this challenge for a good cause.
“Getting out and getting moving is so important for both the physical and mental wellbeing of the residents, and we found ourselves wandering further and further each time.
“We will definitely be carrying on our walks going forward.
“It was also so exciting for everyone when Comic Relief got in touch with us, as they were inspired by the residents’ efforts!”
Pentland View raised a grand total of £481, which exceeded the original goal of £250, thanks to the generous donations made by family, friends, and staff.
