Community support initiative to start at Castletown – all welcome to come along and share ideas
The launch event for a community project to bring people together and support mental health will take place at the Drill Hall in Castletown on May 3.
Amanda Snashall is project officer for Castletown Connections and says that the idea is to have “a two-tier system”, both supporting those who are unable to leave their home as well as having two groups a week at the hall which will have food and activities to draw people together, connecting and supporting their mental health as they do so.
“We are looking to get as many people involved as possible to shape the group and activities as we move forward. There will also be a fun quiz and arts and crafts laid on as well as hot dogs and cake.”
The groups will be led by trained peer-to-peer workers from Discovery College and looks to begin next month.
Also involved with this initiative are the Castletown Youth club and sharing shed/greenhouses, Castletown Free Church, the Drill Hall, as well as Listening Ear Caithness, CVG and Mikeysline.
