Crofting Commission chief executive Bill Barron to step down
The Crofting Commission has been left in a stronger position, its convener said as chief executive Bill Barron announced he would be stepping down later this year.
Mr Barron said on Wednesday that it had been a great honour to serve as the chief executive of the commission and that he would stand aside in September.
He added: "I will work with colleagues and the board of commissioners to ensure that the transition from my leadership to the next will be as smooth as possible.
"It will always be the priority of the Crofting Commission to ensure that we are providing a reliable and meaningful service to crofters, which I do not wish to compromise during this phase of change.
"I am thankful to all who offered support, guidance and scrutiny to me during my time as chief executive. Whilst I will miss my friends and colleagues very much, it’s time for me to embark on a new chapter in my life."
Malcolm Matheson, convener of the Crofting Commission, said: “Bill Barron has made a considerable positive contribution to the Crofting Commission over his time in leadership and is leaving the commission in a far stronger position.

"We would like to thank Bill for the hard work and dedication that he has shown in the role, and whilst we are sorry to see him moving on, we look forward to the new opportunities which will arise.”
Mr Matheson added that they would continue to “improve and strengthen the Crofting Commission" and build on the progress made over recent years.
