Electrifying day of celebration as historic Thrumster Railway Station is 'switched on' this Sunday
After years of work to refurbish the old railway station at Thrumster, the historic building will finally be connected to the electrical grid at an official event on Sunday (July 16).
In 2011, and with the help of Highland Council and Entrust, the Yarrows Trust (YHT) decided to purchase the little wooden station at Thrumster to serve as an information point focussing on the rich archaeological landscape surrounding the village and its surroundings. It also celebrates the natural habitats, flora and fauna of the district and is the most northerly restored heritage station in Britain.
To celebrate the refurbishment and work done to electrify the building, YHT is delighted to welcome Wick and East Caithness councillor Raymond Bremner to perform the official switching on of the station on Sunday afternoon. The public can attend the free event which will take place between 1pm and 3pm with the switching on happening between 1.30pm and 2pm. Tea and coffee will be served and the Trust’s new woodland is open for everyone to explore. There are activities for families as well which the organisers say will be a "fun day for all".
The connection was part funded by Scottish Hydro Electric Community Trust which exists for the sole purpose of helping individuals and organisations get connected to the electric grid. The other funder was Foundation Scotland.
