Ferry passengers finally reach Stromness almost 24 hours after leaving Scrabster
PASSENGERS who were stuck on-board a ferry for almost 24 hours finally docked safely in Orkney.
The MV Hamnavoe which left Scrabster on Thursday morning was unable to arrive at Stromness yesterday due to rough sea conditions.
The ferry left Scrabster at 10.05am and was due to arrive at Stromness at around midday.
However it was unable to berth at the port safely and was forced to change course to Scapa Flow to shelter overnight with 23 passengers still onboard.
The ferry finally reached its destination at 9.16am this morning when passengers were able to disembark safely.
Serco Northlink manager director Stuart Garrett said: “Our Pentland Firth vessel MV Hamnavoe docked safely into Stromness this morning at 09.16.
"I’d like to thank our passengers for their patience during yesterday’s severe weather, and praise the crew for their professionalism and hard work throughout the sailing.”
