Firefighters from Wick were called out as a precaution after a van carrying parcels and mail was involved in an accident on the A9 in Caithness.

Emergency services were alerted at 5pm with police and an ambulance attending.

There were not thought to be any serious injuries.

The road was partially blocked near Latheron village for a period of time.

A fire service spokeswoman said: “We received a call from the ambulance crew at 5pm and were asked to attend given the nature of the cargo.

“There was a quantity of mail for delivery.

“Two appliances from Wick attended but we weren’t required to use any equipment at the scene.”

Police and ambulance services have been contacted for comment.

A second accident on the Inverness to Wick route happened at around 6.17pm and it is not currently known how many vehicles are involved.

Firefighters were not called to the incident at Berriedale. The police and ambulance service have been contacted for comment.
