Caithness schools take gold for sporting efforts
Reay and Halkirk primary schools have been recognised for outstanding achievement in the area of sport and physical activity.
Both schools have received the sportscotland Gold School Sport Award.
Funded by the National Lottery it recognises schools that make sport a core part of school life and celebrates their strong commitment to quality physical education, school sport and giving pupils chances to lead and stay active for life.

Maree Todd, MSP for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross and Minister for Sport visited both schools last week to present their awards, meet with pupils and staff and pass on her congratulations.
“I’m absolutely delighted to see Reay and Halkirk primary schools receive this well-deserved recognition,” she said.
“Achieving Gold is no small feat — it’s a testament to the dedication of staff, pupils and the wider school community who have worked so hard to embed sport and physical activity into daily school life.
“As Sports Minister, I’m passionate about supporting young people to build healthy habits from an early age.
“Being active doesn’t just boost physical and mental wellbeing — it also builds confidence, resilience and key life skills that support young people throughout their lives.
“I’m proud to see schools in Caithness setting such a strong example in creating supportive, active environments where pupils can thrive.
“A huge congratulations to everyone at Reay and Halkirk primaries — it was a joy to visit the schools last week and present them with this well-deserved award. This is an outstanding achievement and something the whole community can be proud of.”
