Line up of Caithness' best musicians at Thurso's Royal Hotel

The new owner of the Royal Hotel in Thurso is having a celebratory day of music on Saturday (May 27) before fully opening for business next week.

Glasgow businessman, Thomas Melville, who has four hotels in other parts of Scotland, has taken over the business from the Muthu Group of India which purchased it in 2017.

Mr Melville is looking to have live music in the newly refurbished lounge bar during the afternoon and through until night-time. He's asked the Love Live Music (LLM) team to help out with providing musicians and equipment.

Ken Bateson from LLM said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Thomas on this and we hope to make it an open day to remember with some fine musicians taking part. The line-up so far is Iain Elder (known locally as Rooker), Faith Charlton, Ali Glen, Jackie and John Newton, 'E Cheils and Alisdair Wordie, Dougie Shearer, Keisha Sutherland and Scott Anthoney.

"We, the LLM team, are looking forward to working with the Royal Hotel in the future to help facilitate live music in their venue. There are some very talented musicians in Caithness and we're always happy to help them out in any way we can. It's the aim of LLM to support and nurture up-and-coming musicians in the area as well as help to promote live music in general. We are, of course, a non-profit group."

The special day of music will be held at the reopened Royal Hotel in Thurso.

Mr Bateson adds that LLM intends to work with local musicians to help them grow and is delighted with the "positive input and support" from Fergus Corsie and Willie McGillivray since they came on board in May last year.

"We're always looking for new talent so if anyone is thinking of sharing their singing/musical abilities to an audience that appreciates good music please get in touch. It can be solo, duo or bands. We'll provide a PA as well as most of the equipment. We have a Love Live Music Facebook page and you can PM any of the admins on there. Come and join the post-covid music revival!"

The afternoon session at the Royal Hotel is from 2pm-6pm and the evening session from 7.15pm-11pm.
