A Wick man has admitted an assault in which he used a piece of wood.
George Newlands will be sentenced next month at Wick Sheriff Court.
The 51-year-old was said to have repeatedly punched a man and struck him with the weapon to his severe injury, on August 11 or 12 , last year, at the accused's home in Bexley Terrace, Wick.
Sheriff Gordon Lamont, who noted that Newlands was currently subject to a community payback order, called for a background report.
He will consider it on May 27 before passing sentence.
