Lybster talk by Mastermind Mann
FAMOUS Wick-based glass engraver Denis Mann will be giving a talk on Wednesday evening (September 25) at the Quatre Bras Gallery in Lybster.
The talk coincides with and is a celebration of the current solo exhibition – A Lifetime of Adventures in Glass – by Denis which is being hosted by North Lands Creative (NLC) glass studio in the village.
Denis is perhaps most acclaimed for his work designing and engraving the BBC Mastermind trophy, starting in 1971 and recently completing his 48th. The Lybster glass studio was recently commissioned by Denis to make the bowls he will engrave for next year's Mastermind trophy.
The bowl was created by NLC associate artist Emma Baker, assisted by Tyron Sheppard who is on an internship from Bristol Blue Glass.
Denis will soon begin work on engraving the trophy using the Muses design.
NLC general manager Laura O'Kane said: “Denis is a highly regarded Caithness artist – his accomplished creative career has spanned 49 years. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet Denis in person and gain insight into his creative approaches to glass engraving and hear about his inspirations and lifetime's work.
“His name is synonymous with Caithness Glass and he has deep and tangible connections to the county. We are delighted to welcome everyone to this exciting event.”
Alongside the evenings event, there will be an auction of works by artist engravers to support the acquisition of glass engraving tools for the NLC educational programme.
The talk starts at 6pm in the Quatre Bras Gallery in Lybster. All are welcome and entry is free.
