'No question' over reopening of Altnabreac station, says Far North Line group
Rail passengers in the far north have been reassured that Altnabreac’s temporarily closed station will reopen to passengers.
The Friends of the Far North Line has moved to stress that there is “no question” of the station being closed permanently.
The campaign group, which has been in discussion with ScotRail and other stakeholders about the situation at Altnabreac, made its comments after the station temporarily closed to passengers earlier this month.
The closure stems from an access dispute, with ScotRail and Network Rail saying that a road access issue was preventing workers from carrying out maintenance at the site.

The companies are hopeful of resolving the situation, although no date for the resumption of services has been given.
Ian Budd, the Friends of the Far North Line’s chairman, has moved to assure passengers that Altnabreac is not at risk.

He said: “There is no question of the station being closed permanently, just in case anyone thinks [the temporary closure] is cover for that.
“That is absolutely not the case – it’s not true.”
