Noisy driver at Thurso Tesco store hit with hefty fine and ban

Accelerating harshly in Thurso in the early hours cost Jamie Sutherland a £400 fine and a four-month driving ban.

The 30-year-old admitted a charge of careless driving at Wick Sheriff Court on Thursday.

The offence took place at the Tesco in Thurso.

Police officers received a report around 3am on November 8, last year, about cars making a “noisy” nuisance.

Fiscal depute Grant McLennan said that officers attended at the local Tesco store where they observed Sutherland accelerating harshly, although he “slowed down to quiet” when he saw the patrol car approaching.

Sheriff Wilson commented that Sutherland’s record of offending for road traffic offences – including dangerous and careless driving – did not make “good reading” and added that disqualification was “inevitable”.

The sheriff reminded Sutherland, of Bremner’s Walk, Wick, that he already has seven points on his licence, imposed for a previous offence.
