The Bower Show lived up to its promise that it would be bigger and better than ever this year.

The entertainment never stopped from Saturday morning until the early hours and the organisers praised everyone who donated, volunteered and supported the annual event.

Rain did threaten to make an appearance but the weather proved favourable.

The day’s programme began with the dog show and an impressive 26 dogs were entered.

NRG Dance entertained the spectators as they awaited the arrival of the king, Callum Sewell-Mcphee, and the princess, Lacey Sewell-Mcphee, who were piped in by Lewis Deering.

Bower head teacher Sylvie Sinclair opened the show before handing over the microphone to Willie Mackay in his role as master of ceremonies.

From the children’s play area to vintage vehicles, there was something for all ages. Caithness Animal Farm Park proved to be a popular attraction and some show-goers had a go with Caithness Archers.

Adding to the occasion were Pentland Brass Band, Tanya Horne’s dancers, Caithness Gymnastics and Wick Young Fiddlers.

Activities around the field included kids’ races, a bowling game, egg-throwing and the Scottish national bale-push.

Inside there was a fine display of industrial entries, although slightly down on last year.

Bower Young Farmers’ exchange with Carluke Young Farmers coincided with the show and the visiting club received a warm welcome.

Local band Rain in Summer played at night.

Dorothy Allan, from the organising committee, said: “We would like to thank everyone who helped make the show a success – those who donated, helped set up, volunteered or supported us on the day and those that helped pack up on Sunday.

“An immense amount of work goes into putting on such an event and we couldn’t do it without the fantastic support of the community.”

Willie Mackay said: “It was a great wee show. We didn’t see a lot of sunshine but it was dry on the day with wonderful family entertainment.”
