Packed village hall in Watten for Macmillan coffee morning event
Watten Village Hall had people travel from far and wide for a coffee morning event on Saturday morning in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Support (MCS) charity.
The popular event saw many travelling for miles from across the county to attend with one woman coming all the way from Dundee. There were 14 tables laid out in the village hall with dozens of people coming and going over the day.
Dianne Mackay, one of the organisers, said that the last two events were held outside due to Covid restrictions and she was delighted to be hosting another indoor coffee morning.
"We were the only people doing it last year and we made £8650," she said. "This year there are coffee mornings everywhere so we're not expecting to make that amount."
The cash taken in for the MCS Watten coffee mornings has steadily increased, from £125 in 1995 to the £8650 last year. Dianne continued: "We've been very fortunate and people have come to support us. This is our 28th year raising funds for Macmillan. We've got raffles, coffee, tea, we've got produce and baking, there's a bottle stall and one for bairns too."
The raffle prizes included a night at Braeside Retreats, £100 cash prize, Simpsons Petrol voucher, a voucher for a visit to Ulbster Alpacas, £20 Hair Hut voucher donated by Leanne Sutherland, baking hamper from The Home Bakery in Wick and many other items.
"We just want to thank everyone who comes along and supports us," added Dianne.
