A black Pekin female bantam from a Castletown exhibitor took the overall honours in an online show held by the North of Scotland Poultry and Waterfowl Club.

Along with many other agricultural gatherings up and down the country, the club's annual event had to be cancelled because of the Covid-19 restrictions. In its absence, club members held a virtual competition using photos taken of all the section winners from the 2013 to 2019 shows.

This resulted in an entry of 85 photos.

The judge was Mike Hatcher, who had previously judged the show in 1993 when he made the long train journey from Berkshire. This time he could judge the show from the comfort of his own home.

Judged best in show and best true bantam was a black Pekin female from Castletown's Michael Thomson. Described by the judge as having very good type and colour, this bantam had won her section at the 2018 show.

Reserve champion and best large fowl was an "excellently marked" Scots Grey female originally shown in 2017 by Donald MacIsaac, Hoy.

Best opposite sex to the champion and the winner of soft feather heavy breed bantam section was a white Wyandotte male from Orkney breeder Stevie Hutchison, who also won the heavy breed large fowl section with a Wyandotte female.

A gold pencilled Hamburg bantam female from Bob Tait, of Montrose, was judged reserve best bantam after winning the soft feather light breed category. Kelly Millar from Elgin triumphed in both the waterfowl and trio sections with her white Call ducks.

Golspie exhibitor Robbie Parkin won the large fowl hard feather breed award with an Old English Game male, while an Old English Game female from Marissa Hutchison was top in the hard feather bantam section.

Halkirk sisters Erin and Neave Sutherland swept the boards in both the novice and junior sections with their Modern Game bantam females that had previously won at the 2016 and 2017 shows.

In the egg section Mike Grogan from Spittal came out top with three large brown eggs.
