North car enthusiasts took part in a “send-off convoy” in Wick on Saturday following the funeral service for teenager Kaden Askew.

A total of seven bikes and around 30 cars turned out to sound their horns and rev their engines for “One Last Run” in memory of the 15-year-old, who died unexpectedly earlier this month.

Mum Gemma Tait, who described her son as a “car nut” who loved to attend local car meets, told of how she imagined Kaden to be “smiling down” as members from Highland Cars, Caithness Car Scene and Elev8 Aberdeenshire Car Scene drove by.

Sharing a post on Facebook, she said: “These guys gave our boy the most amazing send off, driving by at the perfect time.

“Forever 15. Forever my son. Forever one of them.”

A “proud” Andy Mac of Highland Cars, who had been approached by Gemma to organise the run, thanked the police who provided traffic control, Ashley Ann for the use of their car park and the public for their patience while cars and bikes “took over the town”.

He said: “We couldn't have asked for a better response, from those attending to those sharing our posts.

“The public really pulled together and made the moment for the family one to remember that we all couldn't be prouder of.

“Kaden - you started with us, you ended with us, you will forever be one of ours at Highland Cars.”
