PICTURES: Intergenerational visits to Thurso care home by primary class and baby group
A care home in Thurso played host to two intergenerational events in as many days.
Pentland View had Pennyland Primary School’s P6 class in for another visit, then the Highland Peep baby group.
Margaret Quinnell, one of the residents, told the school pupils about her experiences as a child during World War II, recalling evacuation and the Blitz while living in London.
Margaret was five years old when the war began. The children listened closely to Margaret’s stories and had plenty of questions for her.
Margaret said: “They were wonderful. I feel it’s important to share what it was like so that it never happens again.”
One day later, the Thurso branch of Highland Peep visited the home.
Residents were delighted to join in songs with the group and then chatted to the mums and babies – managing a few cuddles along the way.
The group members held an hour-long session in the home and have been invited to do further sessions there in the future.
Pentland View’s activities coordinator Jeanine Sinclair said: “It’s always lovely having children and babies in the home, and we all delight in the ties we’ve formed with the community.
“They’ve brought the residents so much happiness and it is just lovely watching them all interact. We look forward to having both groups in to visit us again soon.”
Pentland View is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers. Pentland View provides residential care, nursing care and dementia care for 47 residents, from respite care to long-term stays.
