Residents at a Thurso care home enjoyed a nostalgic day out when they ventured along the coast to make the most of good weather at John O’Groats.

Staff at Pentland View Care Home decided to enjoy the conditions and took the minibus for an afternoon out.

It was particularly special for birthday girl and Pentland View resident Barbara Thomson. She was treated to some delicious coffee and brownies from Stacks café, along with the rest of the residents and staff on the trip.

Following on from drinks and brownies, the residents had a walk around Groats to see what had changed since they had last been. They particularly enjoyed posing for photos in the Viking cut-outs and under the famous signpost.

They reminisced about their own trips to Groats over the years both for business and pleasure. Resident Alexander Budge said: “I made this trip in my van many times over the years.”

On the way home, they enjoyed the beautiful scenery in the sunshine. In typical Caithness fashion, they even had to stop for cows being moo-ved down the road, but still arrived back just in time for tea!

Pentland View Care Home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers.
