Police confirm ‘unexplained’ death of man after Wick fire





Police Scotland has confirmed that a man died after a fire in Wick yesterday and the next of kin have been informed.

Multiple emergency services were witnessed at the scene around lunchtime on Wednesday (December 18) including fire, police and ambulance with the road being taped off by police.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.20pm on Wednesday, 18 December, 2024, we were called to a report of a fire at a property in West Banks Terrace, Wick.

“The fire was extinguished by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“The body of a man was found within and next of kin are aware. His death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

A witness said that a “window exploded out” as the fire raged at the house. Concerned residents were unable to access their homes until the police cordon was lifted later in the afternoon.
