Safety checks in Thurso town centre find 'no particular concern' after parapet collapse
Nothing untoward has been found in initial safety checks on buildings in Thurso town centre in the wake of the dramatic, sudden collapse of masonry from the former Clydesdale Bank building.
No-one was injured when tons of sandstone blocks fell from the parapet of the building on to Traill Street overnight on May 1.
Thurso community councillors heard at their meeting last week that surveyors from the local authority have been carrying out precautionary inspections of other buildings.
Thurso Highland councillor Struan Mackie said they are targeting premises of a similar age to the former bank and those where concerns have been raised.
He said: "They haven't expressed any particular concern for other buildings.

"They have had cursory looks at buildings and are continuing to work their way through them."
Councillor Mackie said anyone who has concerns about the stability of a building should get in touch with the council.
Council colleague Matthew Reiss said police, trunk road contractor Bear Scotland and the local authority were quick to respond to the incident on May 1.
He said: "We're incredibly thankful that there weren't any injuries."
Community councillor Billy Sinclair interjected: "Next time, I'm concerned we might not be so lucky."
