Santa dash was great festive fun for Noss Primary School pupils
Children and adults donned Father Christmas suits and other seasonal outfits as they took part in the first Santa dash held by Noss Primary School and ELC.
More than 100 spectators and runners gathered at the school’s multi-use games area on Saturday before setting off to complete nine laps – equivalent to a mile.
There were some impressive costumes on show, with the Grinch making an appearance along with Rudolph and elves. Pupils, families and staff members walked, jogged and ran the distance.
P5 pupils Joe and Haydn Anderson and Joe Davidson, along with P4 pupil Joey Macnab, demonstrated outstanding levels of fitness to run two miles in just 15 minutes.
Joe Davidson said: “The hot chocolate afterwards was good, especially after running so far.”

Joe Anderson added: “It was entertaining and gave us something extra festive to do at the weekend.”
Haydn Anderson said: “It was great fun and good to meet new people. I saw the Grinch.”
After the Santa dash, the school’s community council hosted the runners for hot chocolate, mince pies and shortbread. Families were able to take festive photos and make bracelets, while former pupil Erna Thain displayed her artistic talents by doing face-painting with the younger pupils.
Head teacher Fraser Thomson said: “The weather fell kindly for us and it made the event. It was great to see so many runners out.
“The aim was to promote festivities and positive health and wellbeing during the run-up to Christmas. It was great to see folk catching up with each other and having a laugh – and some red faces and heavy breathing as a result!
“Our community council is a fine example of a parent/carer group whose members provide first-class support to our school and nursery. I can’t thank them enough.”
Carole Henderson, one of the school cooks, opened the kitchen for the morning to support the event. Wednesday this week will be her final day of service.
Mr Thomson said: “Carole has been a fantastic servant to our community. The pupils, staff and families of Wick North Primary School and now Noss Primary School and ELC have been privileged to have Carole as part of the team.
“We will miss her and wish her the very best in her retirement.”
