Far north entrepreneurs are being urged to join a new innovation roadshow that will make a stop in Caithness this month.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) have joined forces to stage the workshops, offering expert advice to help individuals or businesses turn their ideas into commercial success.

Staff from HIE and SRUC’s recently opened Rural and Veterinary Innovation Centre in Inverness will run the half-day sessions that will focus on products for the agriculture, aquaculture, animal health and food and drink sectors.

The Caithness workshop – taking place in Thurso on Thursday, May 30 – will provide networking opportunities, case studies and techniques for progressing ideas, along with an overview of follow-on support.

Those attending will gain an understanding of the source of entrepreneurial ideas, and some of the key steps to successful commercialisation.

Activities include exercises to generate, prioritise and develop ideas, and signposting to further business support available from both HIE and SRUC.

Dr Adam Giangreco, head of business development at SRUC, said: “I’m really excited to learn what innovators in Caithness are developing. Scottish innovators have helped shape the modern world, and who knows what hidden gems are waiting to be discovered in the north?

“It’s really important that SRUC is supporting Scottish innovators regardless of where they live. Geography shouldn’t be a barrier to success, and SRUC’s Rural and Veterinary Innovation Centre is here to help.”

Places at the Thurso workshop can be booked through Eventbrite.

Opened in March 2024 by the Princess Royal, the Rural and Veterinary Innovation Centre is SRUC’s £12.5 million facility developing new links between science and industry to help address planetary health challenges and grow the natural economy.
