THE sister of a teenager who tragically died just six days after being chosen to carry the Queen’s baton ran in his memory in their home town.

Originally from Thurso, Kai Wood accepted the honour of carrying the baton through Tranent, East Lothian in tribute to her brother Kyle on Tuesday.

Kyle (14), who was born with epilepsy and learning disabilities, sadly passed away at his family home after suffering a seizure in April.

He was an active, social person who loved athletics and was a founding member of the Lothian Leopards Athletics Club which specialised in disability sport.

Due to the fantastic work he did to promote disabled sport in his area, Kyle was chosen to carry the Queen’s baton.

After he passed away, organisers asked Kai (17) if she would take his place and run in Kyle's memory.

Grandparents Bryan and Shirley Gunn travelled down from Thurso to Tranent to proudly watch their grand-daughter carry the baton.

They joined other friends, family and students from Ross High to cheer Kai on, wearing t-shirts with an image of Kyle and his catchphrase “You can do it. Just like me. Just like I did it.”
