A potentially life-saving defibrillator has been installed on the outside of the Weigh Inn Hotel in Thurso in memory of a long-time campaigner for the devices.

Billy Mitchell tirelessly campaigned for the provision of the lifesaving units throughout Caithness.

His widow, Margaret Mitchell, along with her daughter Gillian Hossack, felt the new device would be a fitting memorial and could make a vital difference in the event of an emergency in the area.

The defibrillator is one of several around the county funded by Caithness Heart Support Group.

It was unveiled by hotel manageress Fiona Sinclair and heart support group committee members Bob Bell and Elaine Rosie.
