Thurso town centre will play host to a Spring Awakening Market this Saturday, featuring craft stalls as well as music and dancing.

It is being held by Craft North, with local crafters selling from gazebos along the pedestrian precinct and in the Socially Growing shop.

Tanya Horne School of Highland Dancing and Caithness Youth Pipe Band will provide entertainment throughout the day.

There will be a raffle hamper made up of gifts from each stall-holder.

Many other local businesses are getting involved and will be part of a fun treasure hunt.

Proceeds from the raffle and treasure hunt will go to Craft North’s chosen charity, Caithness Mental Health Support Group.

The event will also be celebrating the opening of Spellbound Caithness: Home of Magick, a new High Street shop.

Craft North was formed by two friends, Bronwyn Ross (Caithness Candle Company) and Yvonne Rathbone (Abbeycrafts), to run events showcasing the skills and talents of local artists, crafters and makers.

Yvonne said: “Hopefully it will be a great way for the town to celebrate the arrival of spring and have fun. We will have 12 local craft businesses on the day.

“Support from local established businesses has been fantastic, a great example of working together. We will be doing more events during the summer season, especially to help promote Thurso for the tourists.

“What we do need is volunteers to help with setting up the gazebos.”
