Urgent plea from Caithness dog charity KWK9 for volunteers - ‘Without local support and help, the charity will need to close down’
A Caithness charity that helps rehome dogs is desperately seeking volunteers to help it keep running, or it may be forced to close down.
The KWK9 trustees are asking for your assistance to keep this valued local charity running for the foreseeable future.
“Without local support and help, the charity will need to close down,” said charity trustee Lysette Butler.
Over the last 13 years, KWK9 has rehomed, cared for and made the lives of many dogs much better.
“We have helped and rehomed around 1400 dogs, giving 1400 families and individuals loving companions. All the dogs that are rehomed by us are neutered and microchipped, so that new owners don’t have any immediate costs.
“We have also helped many families/individuals, through our helping paw strand, with vet’s bills, care needs and food as required.”

Lysette said that KWK9 is, unfortunately, at a crisis point now.
“KWK9 is entirely funded by donations, which come from all sorts of sources. Funding is not the problem, though; people are.
“We currently have five trustees who do the majority of the jobs required to run the charity. The list of jobs is long and is no longer sustainable by the trustees alone.”
The charity is therefore asking for locals who would be willing to volunteer to help the running of KWK9. It needs people with skills in the following areas: fundraising, administration and computer skills, driving, publicity, and fostering coordination.
“However, we especially need fosterers to care for the dogs until they go to their new homes. Without an influx of fosterers, KWK9 will not be able to continue, in any capacity.”

“When you email us, you will get an automated reply, and we intend to contact you within two weeks of the publication of this appeal. We will then arrange a meeting for all to attend if there is enough interest, to discuss the way forward for KWK9,” added Lysette.
