Violin triumph for Thurso teen at National Youth Orchestra of Scotland concert

A Thurso teenager, taught violin by her mother, was delighted to play in a concert with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland (NYOS).

Olivia Jones-Singh was selected to play with the NYOS, and on April 14, she travelled down to Perth for a week's residential course at Strathallan boarding school.

At the end of the week (Saturday, April 19), the orchestra performed at Perth Concert Hall. The conductor was Catherine Larsen-Maguire, and the soloist at the concert was Adam Lee.

Elizabeth Jones, Olivia’s mum, said: “This is quite something for a young musician aged only 13 – she's in S2 at Thurso High School.

“Her violin teacher has always been none other than myself. I started teaching her at six years old, and by the age of seven, she was winning her class at the Caithness Music Festival.”
