Who is your rock? Nominate your colleague, mentor or boss for Caithness art festival show

An art organisation based in Halkirk is looking for nominations of people's "rock of support" at work to be photographed and displayed at an exhibition.

Cally Maxwell from Sidh C Art says the Caithness Art and Stone Festival will be running in August this year.

Cally said: “We would like people to nominate colleagues, bosses, mentors, or departments which they look to for support at work. This could be for confidence, advice, guidance, humour or something else.

“We will look at the nominations and select six to be captured by a local photographer, and have the portraits shown at the exhibition at the Ross Institute alongside sculptures, paintings and other artworks made on the theme of 'rocks, stones and minerals of Caithness'.”

Cally says that nominations should be emailed to sidhcart@gmail.com by Wednesday, April 30.

“We ask for details of the nomination and will give brownie points if they can tell us what type of rock their person is,” she adds.

Sidh C Art is a small arts charity in Halkirk which has run two previous exhibitions, "Legends of Caithness" and "Industrial Caithness". The exhibitions have shown portraits of local people – nominations of legendary characters and industry legends. “These have been a great addition to the exhibition when visitors recognise people they know,” adds Callie.

“We have loads of little projects running through the year – music events, art classes, an interactive map of Caithness, small exhibitions, and we would love to work with organisations across the county. If you have any questions or ideas, please don't hesitate to get in touch."
