Wick Academy manager hears about Noss school sport award bid
Wick Academy manager Gary Manson heard about Noss primary’s bid to be recognised for its sporting endeavours when he paid a visit to the school.
Gary supported the launch of a school values competition and answered questions from pupils ranging from the farthest distance he’s had to travel on a match day to his greatest football idol.
He met with the school sports committee and heard how Noss is on a journey towards the SportScotland School Sport Award.
So far, the pupils have organised an inter-school house table tennis competition and launched a community Santa Dash that will take place in December.
The committee has played a part in helping the school to develop links with local organisations and clubs. Academy, who play in the Highland League, have been training at the multi-use games area at Noss, as have Caithness rugby club’s junior section, Lybster, Staxigoe and East End football clubs and Caithness Football Coaching Academy.
Gary heard that pupils who continuously model the school values – Ready, Respectful, Safe – get to celebrate with hot chocolate on a Friday with friends and members of the school’s senior leadership team.
They then have the chance to play an active role on a Wick Academy match day by being ball boys/girls and the team mascot.
Younger classes shared some facts and knowledge with Gary, while the older pupils had prepared a range of questions.
Head teacher Fraser Thomson said: “We were delighted that Gary took the time to visit our school. It helps develop the link between the club and the Noss community.
“The pupils were excited ahead of the visit and I know Gary was impressed with the range of questions.
“We are continuing to develop links with a range of partners in our community and, after this visit, I know Academy have a group of new supporters.”
Gary said: “I was more than happy to spend part of the morning at Noss Primary School, going round all the classrooms to speak to the pupils and answer all their questions.
“I always enjoy speaking to kids and hearing about how they enjoy football, and answering any questions that they might have.”
