Wick driver was 13 times drug limit after taking cocaine





A Wick woman has admitted driving while more than 13 times the legal drug limit – after taking cocaine.

Emma Campbell was ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid community work, at Wick Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Sheriff David Harvie was told that the 40-year-old was stopped by police in Burn Street, Wick, on May 18, and failed a roadside test.

A blood sample Campbell provided produced a reading of 688 mcg of Benzoylecgonine - the legal limit is 50 mcg.

Campbell, who was unrepresented, told the court that she had taken crack cocaine during the day.

Sheriff Harvie gave Campbell, of Seaforth Avenue, Wick, credit for her early plea and noted she was unemployed and a first offender.

In addition to her community service, which must be completed within three months, the accused was banned from driving for a year.
