Wick man ‘willing to comply’ with court order after resisting arrest

A Wick man who caused a disturbance at the local police station was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid community work.

Sheriff Neil Wilson heard at Wick, on Wednesday, that the trouble broke out after Andrew Shearer (32) was arrested on October 9, last year, on an unrelated matter and taken to the station.

He resisted attempts to handcuff him and attempted to throw himself to the floor.

One police officer received a cut during efforts to bring Shearer, of Telford Street, Wick, under control.

The court was told that Shearer, who admitted resisting and obstructing the police, was seeking help for an alcohol problem and was willing to comply with any order Sheriff Neil Wilson imposed.

Sentencing the accused, Sheriff Wilson warned him: “I am going to give you a chance but you should keep in the forefront of your mind that I would have been perfectly entitled to send you to prison for up to a year. The unpaid work is a direct alternative to custody.”

Shearer will be subject to supervision during his unpaid work.
