Jack Ryan will be fulfilling a childhood ambition when he takes part in the Snowman Rally for the first time this weekend.

The 18-year-old from Castletown has stepped up from the Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge in which he was top Scottish driver two years in a row.

He will be driving a Subaru Impreza and is seeded 64th for the biggest motor-racing event in the Highlands.

It takes place on Saturday, October 19, as part of the Scottish Rally Championship, and will be based at the Black Isle Showground near Muir of Ord.

Jack is being sponsored by Groats Gifts and the John O’Groats business has also provided hoodies for the rally team.

Jack said: “I have always wanted to do the Snowman Rally since my mum and dad took me to an event when I was young. I’m so looking forward to it – a little anxious, but excited at the same time.

“I’m extremely grateful to all my sponsors and supporters, family and friends.”

Title sponsor for the event is AM Phillip Trucktech.

Clerk of the course Andy Jardine said: “The Snowman is one of the largest sporting events in the Highlands and brings folk in from all over the country – drivers, co-drivers, service crews and spectators.”

Last year Jack competed for the final time in the season-long Junior Ecosse competition for drivers aged 14-17.
