Scott Durrand helped himself to four goals as Wick Academy began their SHFL Under 18 North campaign with an 8-0 victory over Nairn County.

The young Scorries looked sharp from the beginning in Sunday's match at Harmsworth Park and were moving the ball around well. Sean Pearson gave them the lead after five minutes, rising to head home a Matthew Aitkenhead corner.

Durrand smashed home the second on 15 minutes with a fine finish from 12 yards. He added another shortly after with a lovely lob from 20 yards after good work by Morgan Kennedy.

Durrand completed his hat-trick after 27 minutes, slotting low past the goalkeeper.

Owen Bain then fired the ball home to put Wick in at half-time five up.

The second half started in a similar vein and Josh Sutherland scored the sixth on 50 minutes with a fine finish from 10 yards.

Aitkenhead was played through on goal on 70 minutes and calmly slotted past the onrushing goalkeeper.

Durrand scored his fourth and Academy’s eighth of the day with another clinical finish from 12 yards. There was even time for Aitkenhead to miss a penalty with the last kick of the game.

Coach Derek Shearer said: “I’m delighted with the performance. For the first game of the season we settled really quickly and played some brilliant football.

"Scott was on fire, scoring four goals, but everyone played well.”

The Wick under-18s are away to Dingwall this Sunday.
