Miller and Angus share gold medal spot in Handicap League
In a thrilling finish to Caithness Cycling Club’s final 10-mile time trial of the year Iain Miller took first place, just 10 seconds ahead of Colin Earnshaw, with Gary Angus a further 11 seconds in arrears.
It was a hard night and only Jessica Simmons and Steve Fraser clocked their best rides this season, by 81 and 15 seconds respectively. However, the event had a significant effect at the head of the Handicap League.
Iain, 33 seconds behind his season’s best, scored two points, while Gary – who had had an overall lead of just a single point – was 34 seconds behind his best, and gained one point. As a result the riders share the gold medal spot.
Alistair Miller gained the bronze.

Alasdair Washington travelled to Kildary for the Ronnie MacDonald “10”, promoted by Ross-shire Roads Cycling Club. Although his time of 27 min 54 sec was slower than expected due to 25 mph crosswinds, this was a Scottish age 85 record and took the veteran prize.
A very successful feature of the event was the introduction of a “road bike” category which excluded time-trial bikes, so no tri-bars or disc wheels. No fewer than 20 riders were in this category.
Race winner was the outstanding 25-year-old Adam Wild (GS Metro), the 2020 UK 100-mile champion in 3hr 17 min and 12-hour champion with 293 miles, both amazing performances. First lady was Alexandra Hayden (Vanilla Project Go) with a fine 24min 5sec.
Results: 1 Adam Wild (GS Metro), 20 min 28 sec; 2 Scott Davidson (Moray Firth), 21.43; 3 Alasdair Munro (RT23)22.04; 4 Alan McCaffrey (Moray Firth), 23.22; 33 Alasdair Washington (Caithness CC), 27.54.
