Ex-Rangers star Charlie Miller was delighted with the success of his training camp in Thurso which was attended by 78 eager youngsters over the course of two days.

The Charlie Miller Academy teamed up with Thurso Football Academy to deliver the sessions at the Naver all-weather pitch on Thursday and Friday last week, with support from High Life Highland and local sponsors.

Children aged between four and 15 took part, and Charlie – who was part of the Rangers squad during the club's nine-in-a-row period – said afterwards their parents could be proud of their efforts.

Three children were selected as players of the camp for the different age levels. They were Millie MacNab (4-6), Ella Mackenzie (7-9) and Logan Kirman (10-15).

Charlie, who was accompanied by fellow coaches John McFaulds and Rab Wyatt, said: "It was another great few days in Thurso. I really appreciate being invited up as the welcome is always great.

"Thank you to all the kids – they were great to coach and were really nice kids into the bargain. Their parents should be proud."

Charlie was keen to praise the help he received from Thurso Football Academy's Alyn Gunn and Richie Campbell, along with Alyn's daughter Keira, as well as Juvenal Dufaur from High Life Highland.

He added: "A big thanks to Robbie Fraser and Scotty Youngson for their support, and also to all the staff at the Comm for making us feel so welcome. We are looking forward to coming back again in the future."

Alyn said: "It's fair to say that the event was a success. The children were fantastic and the skills on show across all the age levels were great to see.

"The kids were given drills of a high standard throughout both days, and they took to it really well.

"Charlie, John and Rab were a pleasure to have up – all three guys are great coaches. It's clear to see that they are of a high level and that can only be a benefit to the kids that attended."

Alyn added: "This event brings an end to our summer activities. The academy has coached more than 250 kids this summer across our events with High Life Highland, Rangers Soccer Academy and the Charlie Miller Academy, so it has been a hectic time for us all.

"Last year was a write-off really, so it was important to try and do something positive for the kids in the area.

"I'd like to thank Robbie and Scotty for supporting the academy with our events once again. Without their support these events wouldn't happen, and thanks also to coaches Richie Campbell and Tom McKenna as well as Juvenal Dufaur and the High Life Highland helpers for providing support as and when required across these events.

"We hope that we will be able to confirm plans for the October break in the next few weeks."
