Caithness junior badminton squad player Liam Sinclair (11), from Wick, had a successful visit to the RSL Midlothian under-12 championships in Penicuik.

The boys’ singles competition was played in four groups, with the top two from each group going through to the main draw knockout stages.

Liam, the number two seed, topped his group after winning all three of his games. This placed him in the quarter-finals where he met Matthew Gajri (Lothian), the fourth seed, with Liam winning 21-8, 21-12.

In the semi-finals Liam saw off third seed Joshua Gajri (Lothian) 21-15, 21-9, putting him into the final against top seed Sumanth Prakash (Glasgow and North Strathclyde). The number one seed took the win 21-16, 21-14 after a well-contested game.

The boys’ doubles were played in the form of a round-robin with seven pairs taking part. Liam paired up with Sumanth Prakash and they were the top seeds. They comfortably won all their games.
