Wick duo selected for Scottish Swimming’s Junior Academy squad
Wick Amateur Swimming Club's Eva Robertson and Nebi Senguler have secured places in Scottish Swimming’s Junior Academy squad for 2022/2023.
The duo will be joined by the club's head coach Rona Bain, who was selected as an assistant coach for the programme.
Rona said: "Congratulations to Eva and Nebi on qualifying for the Junior Academy squad. It is a great achievement, and they are very excited to begin their upcoming training sessions."
Scottish Swimming, the national governing body for the sport, works with around 180 talented athletes through a series of progressive national squads which collectively form a national programme.
The national senior team consists of Scotland’s top competitive swimmers and divers. Underneath this, the national junior team plus the youth and senior academy provide a pathway for upcoming athletes to gain relevant education, experiences and support.

At a regional level, the Junior Academy – an initiative run by Scottish Amateur Swimming Association districts and the Scottish Swimming performance team – underpins the national programme. It also provides an opportunity for coaches and swimmers to develop a greater understanding of many key areas of competitive swimming.
The Junior Academy is designed to work along two strands.
The first is to aid the development and education of swimmers aged between 11 and 14 along with coaches working within their clubs. The second is to ensure a positive learning experience for coaches with all levels of experience, enabling them to progress their knowledge and practice by working with and learning from each other.
Meanwhile, members of Wick Amateur Swimming Club attended a presentation evening at the town's Rosebank Playing Fields to receive medals and trophies from the swimming gala held earlier in the summer.
The event also gave the club a chance to present gifts and say thank-you to previous chairpersons Vicky Mackay and Chester Henry, as well as Chester’s wife Joan, who was a club committee member.
The presentation was made by two of the club members, Nebi Senguler and Joanna Gunn.
A new club record for the boys' 50m backstroke (12-13 years) was set by Joe Gill with a time of 33.75 seconds.
Lena Forbes was presented with a special recognition trophy for most improved swimmer by head coach Rona Bain.
